Transport of various goods
aboard the Bella Desgagnés
Perishable goods
Relais Nordik offers heating, refrigeration and freezing services for a surcharge. You must request the required service when booking space on board. The shipper must clearly indicate on each shipment whether the cargo to be carried requires heating, refrigeration or freezing, and if so, make mention of this on the sea waybill and dock receipt.
Relais Nordik may however, without prior agreement, provide heating, refrigeration, or freezing at the expense of the shipper, if required by weather conditions, to protect and conserve the cargo.
Firearms
Relais Nordik holds a license to transport firearms issued by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The weapon must be unloaded of all ammunition and packaged according to the regulations in force. If the customer is traveling with his weapon, it must be delivered to the agency at the port of embarkation at least 1 hour before the arrival of the ship. Firearms must be put away in a sealed container isolated from passengers.
If the weapon travels without the customer, it must be delivered to our warehouses according to the general goods receiving schedule. The owner or sender of the weapon must provide the brand of the weapon, the serial number, its license number when reserving for the transport of the weapon as well as show an identity card when delivering and picking up the weapon.
Please note that firearms cannot be combined with other goods and require a seperate waybill which implies the invoicing of the minimum tariff for the transport of the weapon.
Non-standard or non-containerizable cargo
Goods exceeding the dimensions of the interior of a container (19’ x 7’4’’ x 7’4’’) must be reserved for space with the carrier at least two weeks in advance. Priority is established on a first-come, first-served basis. Delivery arrangements and a non-refundable deposit of 15% of the cost of transport are made at the time of reservation.
The maximum lifting capacity of the Bella Desgagnés crane is 40 metric tons.
Dangerous goods
Relais Nordik is committed to transporting dangerous goods such as explosives, petroleum products and other dangerous goods, according to the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDG). The shipper is entirely responsible for packaging and identifying dangerous goods in accordance with the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act. (https://tc.canada.ca/en/dangerous-goods/transportation-dangerous-goods-act)
The shipper must ensure that the documents have been completed correctly by a trained and/or certified agent, otherwise the goods cannot be accepted. In addition, the shipper is fully responsible for the packaging and identification of dangerous goods in accordance with the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act, 1992.
The transportation of dangerous goods is subject to prior booking space on board the ship and subject to a supplement of 10% of the cost of transport.
